The Federal Government on Friday, warned airlines not to fly passengers into Nigeria without valid visas, saying any carrier that flouts Nigeria’s immigration law will be penalized.
Minister of Interior, Mr Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, said boarding anyone without a visa was illegal, adding that penalties would be immediately affected.
He, however, said the enforcement of Landing and Exit Card would commence on August 1.
Tunji-Ojo spoke at the Stakeholders’ Sensitisation Meeting on the Operationalisation of e-Visa, Landing and Exit Card held in Lagos.
He said: “The issue of the visa when coming to Nigeria is with immediate effect. You cannot come to Nigeria without a visa. So, we have told airlines that it is illegal to board anybody without a visa.
“How can somebody be coming from Europe, coming from Asia, into Nigeria without a visa? Please, we are pleading with you. You are here to do business. But you also have a responsibility in terms of national interest and national security. Before anybody comes to Nigeria, see the person’s visa. Do not pick anybody without a visa.”
On e-Visa, the Minister said since it was launched, there had been close to 6,000 applications, just as over 5,000 e-visas had been issued.
He said: “The e-Visa, as I tell people, we are coming late to the party, but thank God we are not too late. This is a solution that most countries in the world adopted years ago. I do not believe that anybody who wants to come to Nigeria for tourism, business to experience hospitality needs to know the Minister of Interior or the Comptroller General of NIS to be able to get a visa to Nigeria. It does not work. Visa is not just a tool of migration management.
“Visa is an instrument of economic development and economic emancipation for the people. When people come into your country, they pay for hotels, they buy things, they patronise Uber drivers; of course, they invest money into the economy. Of course, we understand that there is a delicate balance with national security, and that is where the solution has developed.
“Let us look at countries that have adopted the e-visa solution. You will see, from the time they adopted it till now, look at the growth in terms of investment and economy. Because, either you like it or not, migration management is very fundamental to economic growth and development. Do you want to talk about the UAE? Do you want to talk about Qatar? Do you want to even talk about Singapore? Do you want to talk about Morocco? With this, we are trying to make sure that for those 13 categories that fall under the purview of e-visa, you can apply and get your visa within 48 hours.”
FG avertit les compagnies aériennes contre les passagers de transport aérien sans visas d’entrée
Vendredi, le gouvernement fédéral a averti les compagnies aériennes de ne pas piloter des passagers au Nigéria sans visas valides, affirmant que tout transporteur qui bafouillait la loi sur l’immigration du Nigéria soit pénalisé.
Le ministre de l’Intérieur, M. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, a déclaré que l’embarquement qui sans visa était illégale, ajoutant que les sanctions seraient immédiatement affectées.
Il a cependant déclaré que l’application de la carte d’atterrissage et de sortie commencerait le 1er août.
Tunji-ojo a pris la parole lors de la réunion de sensibilisation des parties prenantes sur l’opérationnalisation de la carte de visa électronique, d’atterrissage et de sortie tenue à Lagos.
Il a déclaré: «La question du visa lors de son arrivée au Nigéria est avec effet immédiat. Vous ne pouvez pas venir au Nigéria sans visa. Nous avons donc dit aux compagnies aériennes qu’il était illégal de monter à bord de qui que ce soit sans visa.
«Comment quelqu’un peut-il venir d’Europe, venant d’Asie, au Nigéria sans visa? S’il vous plaît, nous vous supplions. Vous êtes ici pour faire des affaires. Mais vous avez également une responsabilité en termes d’intérêt national et de sécurité nationale. Avant que quiconque ne vienne au Nigéria, voyez le visa de la personne. Ne choisissez personne sans visa.»
Sur E-Visa, le ministre a déclaré que depuis son lancement, il y avait eu près de 6 000 demandes, tout comme plus de 5 000 e-visas avaient été émis.
Il a déclaré: «Le visa électronique, comme je le dis aux gens, nous venons en retard à la fête, mais Dieu merci, nous ne sommes pas trop tard. C’est une solution que la plupart des pays du monde ont adopté il y a des années. Je ne crois pas que quiconque veut venir au Nigéria pour le tourisme, les affaires pour vivre une hospitalité doivent être gestion.
«Le visa est un instrument de développement économique et d’émancipation économique pour les gens.
«Regardons les pays qui ont adopté la solution de visa électronique. Vous verrez, à partir du moment où ils l’ont adopté jusqu’à présent, examinent la croissance en termes d’investissement et d’économie. Parce que, vous l’aimez ou non, la gestion des migrations est très fondamentale pour la croissance économique et le développement. Voulez-vous parler de Singapour? Voulez-vous parler de Morocco? Catégories qui relèvent de la visa électronique, vous pouvez postuler et obtenir votre visa dans les 48 heures. »
