The Enugu State Government has announced plans to construct a 135.5-kilometre standard gauge rail line that will connect major South-East cities to the Onne Port in Rivers State.
The State Commissioner for Transportation, Obi Ozor, shared the update during an interview on Enugu Kwenu, a programme aired on Afia TV on Friday.
Ozor discussed the state’s ongoing transport plans and how the proposed rail line would boost economic growth.
He stated that the feasibility study for the project had been completed, noting that the state was working with the Nigerian Railway Corporation and some Chinese firms, while discussions with investors were ongoing to secure funding.
“The line we are about to build is state-owned. It is a 135.5km standard gauge line that connects Enugu to all major cities in the South-East. You are going to see a proper connection to Anambra through Ugwuoba, and a connection to Ebonyi through the Amechi Idodo axis. And of course, connections to Umuahia, Abia, and Owerri through the line that passes through Nkanu West to Isiagu and goes all the way to Onne Port,” he said.
He also stated that the rail line was a major part of Enugu’s plan to become a trade and export hub.

Le commissaire d’État aux transports, Ozor, a partagé la mise à jour lors d’une interview sur Enugu Kwenu, un programme diffusé vendredi sur AFIA TV.
Ozor a discuté des plans de transport en cours de l’État et de la façon dont la ligne ferroviaire proposée augmenterait la croissance économique.
Il a déclaré que l’étude de faisabilité du projet avait été achevée, notant que l’État travaillait avec la Nigerian Railway Corporation et certaines entreprises chinoises, tandis que des discussions avec les investisseurs étaient en cours pour obtenir un financement.
«La ligne que nous sommes sur le point de construire est la propriété de l’État. Il s’agit d’une ligne de jauge standard de 135,5 km qui relie Enugu à toutes les grandes villes du sud-est. et va jusqu’au port d’onne », a-t-il déclaré.
Il a également déclaré que la ligne ferroviaire était une partie importante du plan d’Enugu pour devenir un centre commercial et d’exportation.
