Asset Management Corporation of Nigeria, AMCON, has said it would recover the accumulated debts of over N455 billion allegedly owed by Arik Air Limited (in receivership) and other sister companies belonging to Sir Johnson Arumemi-Ikhide, the promoter of Arik.
AMCON’s Head of Corporate Communications, Jude Nwauzor, who briefed newsmen during the weekend in Lagos, said that Sir Arumemi-Ikhide, who is the promoter of Arik Air, Ojemai Investment Limited and Rockson Engineering Nigeria, has been uncooperative towards the agency’s loan recovery effort.
He said the claims by Arumemi-Ikhide that Arik loan in Union Bank was performing and that the receivership was premature were false narratives and misleading, adding that the refusal of Arumemi-Ikhide to settle the debt owed is a “disservice to the commonwealth and the Nigerian people.”
He said: “AMCON continues to face resistance from a number of debtors who are unwilling to pay without a fight.
“One of these debtors is Arik Air Limited (in Receivership), an airline company owned by Sir Arumemi-Ikhide, who is also the promoter of Rockson Nigeria Limited (a power infrastructure company), and Ojemai Investment Limited.
“These companies’ debts were transferred by various banks to AMCON due to their non-performance, with a total indebtedness of N455, 171, 764, 772. 80 billion as at December 31, 2024.
“Arik owes AMCON N227,637,469,394.34 billion; Rockson Engineering N163,502, 837, 397.75 billion and Ojemai Investment N14, 031, 457, 980.71 billion.
“The fact of the matter is that no matter the smear campaign he is sponsoring against AMCON, these debts must be recovered one way or the other. The leadership of AMCON currently led by Mr Gbenga Alade will not deviate from the mandate of AMCON, which is to recover the huge debt owed to the Corporation by recalcitrant obligors like the promoter of Arik Air Limited (in receivership).
“AMCON is used to the cheap strategy of obligors going to any length to assassinate the characters of both AMCON staff and Management, they malign the name of AMCON, intimidate, and harass our personnel with every arsenal at their disposal.
“Amongst several inaccurate claims, the founder of Arik, Sir Arumemi-Ikhide, has consistently peddled a false narrative regarding his debt to AMCON, claiming that Arik never defaulted in its payment obligations to Union Bank and feigning ignorance of the debt owed to AMCON. He has also alleged that the receivership was premature and claimed his loan was performing.
“These claims are misleading to say the least. The intelligent public must ask, if the loan was performing, why was it sold and restructured, and he (Sir Johnson) even signed the restructuring proposals? And why did he agree to the restructuring if there was no default? Did he fulfill the agreed terms?
“The simple answer is no because he would not have been where he is today with AMCON if he kept his own side of the repayment agreements.”
In February 2017, the Federal Government took over Arik Air through AMCON due to the company’s huge debt profile which was over N300 billion at the time.
Following the takeover, AMCON immediately dissolved the airline’s management team and appointed a receiver manager.

Le chef des communications d’entreprise d’Amcon, Jude Nwauzor, qui a informé les journalistes pendant le week-end à Lagos, a déclaré que Sir Arumemi-Ikhide, qui est le promoteur d’Arik Air, Ojemai Investment Limited et Rockson Engineering Nigeria, n’a pas coopéré à l’effort de récupération de prêt de l’agence.
Il a dit que les affirmations d’Arumimi-Ikhide qu’Arik Prêt à Union Bank se produisait et que l’accueil était prématuré était de faux récits et des tromperies, ajoutant que le refus d’Arumemi-ikhide pour régler la dette devait être une «mauvaise difficulté au Commonwealth et au peuple nigérian».
Il a déclaré: «Amcon continue de faire face à la résistance d’un certain nombre de débiteurs qui ne veulent pas payer sans se battre.
«L’un de ces débiteurs est Arik Air Limited (dans la mise sous séquestre), une société de compagnies aériennes détenue par Sir Arumemi-Ikhide, qui est également le promoteur de Rockson Nigeria Limited (une société d’infrastructure de puissance), et Ojemai Investment Limited.
«Les dettes de ces sociétés ont été transférées par diverses banques à AMCON en raison de leur non-performance, avec une endettement totale de N455, 171, 764, 772. 80 milliards au 31 décembre 2024.
«Arik doit AMCON N227 637 469 394,34 milliards; Rockson Engineering N163 502, 837, 397,75 milliards et Ojemai Investment N14, 031, 457, 980,71 milliards.
«Le fait est que peu importe la campagne de diffamation qu’il parraine contre AMCON, ces dettes doivent être récupérées d’une manière ou d’une autre. La direction d’AMCON actuellement dirigée par M. Gbenga Alade ne s’écartera pas du mandat d’AMCON, qui est de récupérer l’énorme dette due à la société par des obligateurs récalcitrants comme le promoteur d’Arik Air Limited (en réception).
«AMCON est habitué à la stratégie bon marché des obligateurs qui se rendent à tout pour assassiner les personnages du personnel et de la direction de l’AMCON, ils calomnient le nom d’Amcon, d’intimider et de harceler notre personnel avec chaque arsenal à leur disposition.
«Parmi plusieurs affirmations inexactes, le fondateur d’Arik, Sir Arumemi-Ikhide, a systématiquement colporté un faux récit concernant sa dette envers AMCON, affirmant qu’Arik n’a jamais fait défaut dans ses obligations de paiement envers Union Bank et feignant l’ignorance de la dette à AMCON. Il a également allégué que l’accueil était prématuré et a affirmé que son prêt était exécuté.
«Ces affirmations sont pour le moins trompeuses. Le public intelligent doit demander, si le prêt était exécuté, pourquoi a-t-il été vendu et restructuré, et qu’il (Sir Johnson) a même signé les propositions de restructuration? Et pourquoi a-t-il accepté la restructuration s’il n’y avait pas de défaut? A-t-il rempli les conditions convenues?
“La réponse simple est non parce qu’il n’aurait pas été où il est aujourd’hui avec Amcon s’il gardait son propre côté des accords de remboursement.”
En février 2017, le gouvernement fédéral a repris Arik Air via AMCON en raison de l’énorme profil de dette de l’entreprise qui dépassait 300 milliards de nairas à l’époque.
Après la prise de contrôle, Amcon a immédiatement dissous l’équipe de direction de la compagnie aérienne et a nommé un récepteur.
