The Lagos State government is no doubt making good its priority to make the city – state a mega city as it plans to build a 68 kilometer Green Line rail.
The deal sealed by Lagos State government and federal government to begin a 68km Green Line rail project connecting Marina, Victoria Island, Lekki Free Trade Zone and Ajah areas of the state is obviously in line with plans to make Lagos a megacity.
According to the announcement made by Gbenga Omotosho, the commissioner for information and strategy, during a Citizen/Media Stakeholders Forum organised by the Ministry on Monday, the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the project has been signed with Federal Government’s Ministry of Finance Incorporated (MOFI).
The federal government had earmarked N146.14 billion as counterpart funding for the project. The allocated funds will be managed by the Ministry of Finance Incorporated (MOFI) on behalf of the Ministry of Transport to facilitate the project’s development.
This funding forms part of the proposed N49.74 trillion budget for the 2025 fiscal year and is included in the Ministry of Transport’s total allocation of N256.73 billion to advance its infrastructure initiatives.
Lagos already has two metro lines, The Blue Line was launched in 2023. The first phase of the rail line runs from Marina to Mile 2. The second phase, which is under construction, will run from Mile 2 to Okokomaiko. The third phase will run from Okokomaiko to Agbara/Lusada in Ogun State.
The Red Line, which started commercial operations in October, runs from Oyingbo to Agbado. Its second phase, involving Ogun State, is expected to run from Agbado to Kajola.
Aside from the Green Line, the state government is proposing the Purple Line, a 60km rail, designed to run through Redemption Camp, Mowe, Long Bridge, Isheri, Toll Gate, Omole, Ogba, Agege, Iyana Ipaja, Isheri Osun, Igando, Iba, Estate, LASU, Okokomaiko and Ojo.
In December, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, the governor of Lagos State, presented the investment strategy for the Purple Rail Line project at the Africa Investment Forum Market Days in Morocco.

Le gouvernement de l’État de Lagos rend sans aucun doute sa priorité pour faire de la ville – l’État une méga-ville alors qu’elle prévoit de construire un rail de ligne verte de 68 kilomètres.
L’accord scellé par le gouvernement de l’État de Lagos et le gouvernement fédéral pour commencer un projet ferroviaire de ligne verte de 68 km reliant la Marina, l’île Victoria, la zone de libre-échange de Lekki et les régions d’Ajah de l’État sont évidemment conformes aux plans pour faire de Lagos une mégaphacité.
Selon l’annonce faite par Gbenga Omotosho, le commissaire à l’information et à la stratégie, lors d’un forum de citoyens des parties prenantes organisé par le ministère lundi, le Memorandum of Comprendre (MOU) pour le projet a été signé avec le ministère fédéral du ministère des Finances Incorporated (Mofi).
Le gouvernement fédéral avait réservé 146,14 milliards de nairas en tant que financement de homologue pour le projet. Les fonds alloués seront gérés par le ministère des Finances Incorporated (MOFI) au nom du ministère des Transports pour faciliter le développement du projet.
Ce financement fait partie du budget proposé de 49,74 billions de nairas pour l’exercice 2025 et est inclus dans l’allocation totale du ministère des Transports de 256,73 milliards de nairas pour faire avancer ses initiatives d’infrastructure.
Lagos a déjà deux lignes de métro, la ligne bleue a été lancée en 2023. La première phase de la ligne ferroviaire s’étend de Marina au mile 2. La deuxième phase, qui est en construction, se déroulera du mile 2 à Okokomaiko. La troisième phase se déroulera d’Okokomaiko à Agbara / Lusada dans l’État d’Ogun.
La ligne rouge, qui a commencé des opérations commerciales en octobre, se déroule d’Oyingbo à Agbado. Sa deuxième phase, impliquant l’État d’Ogun, devrait se dérouler d’Agbado à Kajola.
Mis à part la ligne verte, le gouvernement de l’État propose la ligne violette, un rail de 60 km, conçu pour parcourir le camp de rédemption, Mowe, Long Bridge, Isheri, Toll Gate, Omole, Ogba, Agege, Iyana Ipaja, Isheri Osun, Igando, Iba, domaine, lasu, okokomaiko et ojo.
